Snow Flower and The Secret Fan

I just loved this book. It was so mesmerizing and written so beautifully by Lisa See. I've already ordered Peony in Love, I hope it's as good as this one. The Secret Fan is about a love between 2 longtime friends and what they endured throughout their lifetime. They would write to each other on a fan that only they could understand and even in old age they continued writing on this fan. It must of been so beautiful to see a lifetime of friendship written on one fan. This secret code called, nu shu "women's writing" was a dialect only known to women in remote parts of china and men would laugh at it but once it was studied they found out how profound and deep it was. They would write stories, sing songs, etc just with 7000 characters. How Amazing.
I just really love the ancient chinese culture with the paintings, geishas and The Chinese Dynasty for some reason fascinate me except for how low they perceived women.
The one part of the book that I had to skip was when the girls were foot bound, I couldn't read some of the parts and gave me the chills just thinking of the pain. OUCH!!. Overall I found that I could relax with this novel as long as the boys were playing in the yard.

    Oh How I Wish

I was in Hawaii Now :(
Well, this weekend I thought it was going to be slow in my Shop due to the Memorial weekend holiday and little did I know that I would get 3 big orders and a ton of little orders in between. I never expected it which I am totally excited about but at the same time I am running out of new items so I will be creating more this week to list by the beginning of next week. I have so many ideas in my head and not enough time, I know that is the motto of every crafter too.

I went to the SuperJoann's that we have here on Saturday and was pretty mad when I get there and forget to take my coupons, they had an extra 10% discount on your total purchase. I still bought a few things that were on sale. I want to create this for my boy's, and bought the materials to do it since it's been a project I have been wanting to do and when I read this lady's wonderful blog full of inspirations and craftyness, it motivated me to do more crafts around the house since it's been over a year since I have done anything for myself. I just love her blog and photos. I finally learned how to work with actions, thanks to her. Their is so much to learn when it comes to Photoshop. So I am determined to at least master somewhat photoshop in order to enhance my photos.

I also went to Target as I have been looking for a comforter for Jacob. He is 9 yrs. old now and he is the transition of I am not a little boy and am almost a teenager, as he states. I bought him his Spiderman comforter when he was 4 yrs. old, which he outgrew awhile ago but I haven't found something I like for him. They really don't make nice boy comforters and the ones I did like were so expensive. I really love the ones they have from Potterybarn Kids but I don't think I would spend over $250.00 just yet. I love him dearly and he deserves the best but mommy is not a money maker either. So when I went to Target I found a simple quilt in his favorite colors (blue and lime green) with stripe sheets and I was unsure if it was up to his standards but he was so happy that he immediately removed all the bedding and replaced it with the new ones. I didn't even have a chance to wash them for him. He feels like a grown boy now, which I hate. It is so nice when they are little because you can buy them anything and they like it but once they start growing they become pickier and pickier. I get so sad seeing him grow so quickly. Sigh...

I just love Urban Outfitters kitschy section, I don't like their clothes to much. I l0ve this and this and must have this lantern for the patio and look, they even have a David Bowie glass, Why??, oh and I remember reading this book. I always loved the movie.

Have you seen the new paper flowers at Paper Source and the new papers they just got in. I would love to buy Jacob any of the bird calls they carry, he is such a bird lover that he even has a huge walk in bird cage that is called Jacob's Bird Sanctuary. I would love to buy it for him but I just need to rob a bank or win the lottery to continue with my shopping addiction. The funny thing I never really buy for myself as in clothes, shoes or bags, it's usually for the house or my kids or my crafty desires.

    Rainy Days

Here is another Etsy item I just bought from this cool little shop. It's a cute little family of ducks and I have plans for these little guys.
Such weird weather, a week ago it was over 100 degrees and today it's only in the 60's and it's raining. It never rains in Southern California. Crazy Weather. I had big plans for this weekend too. I wanted to paint the boy's treehouse and even bought the coolest and brightest colors I could find at Lowe's. Since we weren't able to do much we went to the movies and saw Speed Racer, it was so-so. Even Jacob thought so too. I took the baby with me since he loves anything cars in a big way and he didn't even look at any of the action scenes. He was looking at the people behind us the whole time or eating candy or meowing. I had to scare him a bit just to keep him from moving around. Such a bad mother, I know but it is so difficult to control an overly active toddler. I think he has signs of ADHD, and I've talked to many specialists and mom's and they say the same thing but he won't be able to get tested until he is 5 yrs old. I just hope and pray that it changes, for now I have to take him to theraphy and playgroups so they can help him for his sensitivity to objects and touch. He is my "Little Monk" as my dad calls him. He has mild OCD He is quiet a handful and really tires me out but he is such a joy and I wouldn't have it any other way. I think that is what any mom says of their child.

    3000

Yeah!! I made my 3000th sale today!

    I can't believe it.

Last year when I signed up I never thought it would lead me to where I am today. I saw the Etsy website and thought it was another ebay type place. I did it and sold a few items the beginning months and then had my surgery on my left elbow. I came back and kept making more and more items and they were being sold.
It really took off in August and kept me pretty busy, especially during the months of October and November. As the New Year came around and with all the talk of recession I really thought it would slow down for me and actually I've had more orders than ever, I've also had quiet a few wholesale orders in between my regular orders.
I travel way to much during the year and the nice thing is I can continue selling my items while I visit my family.
I always looked at other shops and wondered how they have become so succesful with so many sellers and beautiful items and the funny thing is I get convo's asking me how I've done it. It's kind of ironic. I don't think I am successful at all. The only thing is that I am able to have the part time job I have been wanting.
I worked in an office for 9 years and left do to the all the hand problems a continue having. I managed to work from home doing handmade wedding invitations and floral designing. I gave that up during the second pregnancy because weddings are fun but so demanding and I really wanted to spend more time with the baby and enjoy his first months. I wasn't able to watch my oldest grow at all and he spent his beginning years in daycare or with my grandma and parents. I did quit the year he was going to start kindergarten and I was able to enjoy the summer with him, which was very memorable.
Anyways, back to Etsy, I am just so grateful everyday that passes that I can really do something I enjoy while having the quality time to spend with my 2 boys. It is just unbelieveable I am able to write about this because I never thought it would lead me here.

    Kawaii

I just love anything Kawaii and I found the greatest little shop on the internet that sells pages and pages of cute little stickers and other stationery items. I bought the little stickers above to decorate the earring boxes I mail out. Usually the boxes I send my stud earrings are much smaller and these stickers just look so cute. I will also use them as little Thank You gifts.

I also had to buy a pink polk-a-dot umbrella, it's a must have.

Their I go buying more things I dont need but need to have.

    I am Addicted

    to shopping on Etsy.

Okay, so I will post a few of my favorite buys recently from Etsy. Since I was in the cast for 2 weeks and didn't go anywhere I was desperate to go shopping, I think it would of been a lot cheaper going to the mall then buying from home. Their are so many unbelieveable creations on Etsy that I really don't buy too much from the stores anymore. I think about 90% of my shopping is done from home. Is that normal? I guess now in days it is with the price of gas and the convenience of receiving your items at home.

Well let me start with this artists ceramic creations, I have bought 3 of them from her and I love her inspirations that come from nature. Then I found these hairpins from this etsy seller. Isn't that red just beautiful. I gave them to my mom and she just loves them and wears them almost every day since her favorite color is red. and this seller is closing her pendant business and I took advantage of her sale and bought this beautiful pendant from her. So while I was at it I also bought this and this. They are too cute. That blue deer looks so lovely on my pale yellow sweater. Then I found another shop, the runny bunny that sells the cutest ceramic statues of animals and the prices are amazing. I couldnt's resist and bought 3 of them from her. In between I bought a ton of vintage ephemera, some lovely bookplates and some cute cupcake toppers from this seller. My son would like me to make him so cupcakes at the end of the school year for his classmates and I have no idea how I am going to bake them without a working oven. I'll just have to run to my sister's house like we normally do.

So enough Etsy shopping for this month, I hope.

By the way the temp is still over 100 degrees. They say it should cool by tomorrow afternoon. I hope it does because it's affected both my boy's appetite and now I can't get rid of this headache that is killing me.

    Water For Elephants

I just love this book. I have read it twice and it's one of my top list of fav books. I am so wishing I can go to the circus now. Not like the circus that comes to our town once a year which is so sad looking and costs as much as going to Disneyland.

I remember being about 5 and going to Barnum and Bailey's. It was so amazing seeing the trapeze act and their beautiful, shiny, sequin dresses. The smell of Cotton Candy, Popcorn and the smell of the animals, what a mixture. Their so much excitement as kid to go to the circus and seeing everything with amazement without ever thinking about the poor mistreated animals and employees. Such ashame. This book is a memory of an older man remembering the 1930's and the time he spent riding in a circus train. Their is so much commotion, excitement and twisted tales of abuse, murder, deception, love and more. It is a lovely, well written book and I loved how it's written through the eye's and memories of a man. I couldn't stop reading this book and finished it in about a day.

Oh, by the way it is so much hotter than it was yesterday and the worst thing is we don't have air conditioner in the house. Even though I grew up in a house with no a/c doesn't mean I am used to the torture of sleeping in a hot room. Let's just hope it's a little cooler tomorrow.

I also went to see this movie today. LOVED IT!!! not just because he is in it andis one of my favorite actors, it was actually really good. I am a big action movie kind of girl who loves Marvel and DC comics and I can't wait to see the new Batman movie.
I am just waiting for a Wonder Woman movie which seems like is being talked about.
    Yeah!! for my all-time Hero.

    Strawberry Shortcake

Today I am dedicating my post to Strawberry Shortcake.
By the way it's the California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard this weekend, which I would love to go but It's so frikkin hot this weekend that I will pass this time.
I just bought this little cutey and this one. I didn't buy them in mint condition but I bought them from this Etsy seller.
I will be buying this cute little clock too.

All these adorable dolls take me back to my childhood and my love for little dolls. I remember brushing their hairs, changing their clothes, washing them, etc. I was an avid doll collector and really took care of my toys, I just wonder what ever happened to them since I supposedly said I took such good care of them. I do have my Barbie collection up in the attic, I always wanted to give them to my daughter but unfortunately ended up having boys. Maybe they will last for the day I have grandchildren. Whoa, I am jumping ahead too much.

Anyways, I am a child of the 80's and love all the nostalgia from that time. Except for anything neon and big hair do's. I just look at the toys and cartoons now in days and they are nothing like they were back then. I still remember having a Rainbow Brite (actually this was my sisters), Kimberly, Care Bears, Cabbage Patch Kids, My Dog Poochie and the Smurfs, this were all very cute toys and the cartoons were descent. I guess times change and now I feel so old . I can't believe this was over 25 years ago.

    I Really Hate

the 14th of every month until the day I seize to exist. It's just a reminder of how painful life is. The month of July will be the toughest and I have no idea how I will do it.

    Relief

Yeah, I can move my arm around now. My cast came off today but I am in so much pain. I can't bend or move my elbow and my arm is so swollen, hopefully I will be able to sleep better with medication of course. The last couple of nights I think I slept about 2 hours at the most. I was just so anxious and uncomfortable from the weight of the cast. I was 8 pds heavier with it, my shoulder kills just from carrying that much weight around. Now I move on to PT which I am dreading. I won't worry too much about that until next week.

On another note my parent's anniversary party went well. It was small but, Oh Man! the food was great. It was a simple grilled dinner but my sister out did herself. They made New York steaks with mushrooms on top, grilled jumbo shrimps, baked potatoes with the works and an amazing salad. I ate so much that I didn't get a chance to taste the cake. I am getting hungry just thinking about the food. Yum!!

The drugs are starting to kick in so I better lay down for awhile.

    For My Grandma

"What children need most are the essentials that grandparents provide in abundance. They give unconditional love, kindness, patience, humor, comfort, lessons in life. And, most importantly, cookies."
    Author: Rudolph Giuliani

My 78 yr. old Grandma has been an inspiration, best friend, companion and everything else that a Mom should be plus more. Don't get me wrong I love my Mom as much but my Grandma is just so special to me. She has always watched us while my parents were working and I am so attached to her as she is with me. She's brought out the creative side in us and we're taught to sew, make dolls, draw and much more by her.
I don't know what I would do without her. She now watches and helps me with my boys and is just so amazing with them and to see her have so much energy in such a little body, it's unbelievable. I am very fortunate and grateful to have an amazing Grandmother.

    I love you Grandma Naty!!

    Haircuts, Origins & Anniversary Party

Well, I finally got a haircut. It's been almost 9 months since I had my sis-in-law cut my hair but haven't seen her in quiet awhile. I went to this man from Costa Rica and I loved the way he cuts hair. I have a ton of thick dark hair, typical of a latin women, and since I cannot put my hair up due to the cast my grandma has to braid my hair in two everyday. I look like a typical mexican indian lady as I have been told by my family.

I am half Guatemalen, Half Mexican born in the US. My Grandfather was Spanish and I always wanted to trace his roots but I don't even know where to start. It would be cool to see my origins. One of these days I will do it. My Grandmother has a ton of beautiful photographs that I need to scan and that is another project on top of my million of other things I would like to accomplish one day.

I was writing about my haircut and now I am writing about ancestors, that is the way my mind works most of the times. I end up talking about one thing and up with a totally different conversation. That was how my conversation was with the hairdresser, he kind of laughed by the end of my haircut. I just wondered what went through his mind

Tomorrow is my parents 34th Anniversary and my little and only sister is throwing them a small dinner party. Should be nice. I will post some pix's of the affair later.

I will leave you with another pix of our animal family. Dodger our 2 yr. old hyper and out-of-control Golden Retriever.

    Arm Cast

Okay, so this is my first entry to my new blog even though I started one previously but never continued it. I don't even know why I started one but I really don't have anyone to chat with at the moment and all my close friends have moved away and rarely hear from them anymore, but anyways I thought this is the perfect time because I just had my 5th surgery for carpal tunnel/tendinitis release. I am little low because I am a very creative person and my hands are itching to make anything and I can't so I will relieve my pains and stress through my own little blog. All my time is spent staring at the computer because my right arm is in a full cast and I can't do much because of the weight of this damn thing. I am only typing with one finger as I am writing and have become very dominant on my left side. My poor boys are abandoned in some way but my lovely Grandma, who is 78, is watching my kids. Poor Grandma, I just wonder if I will make it to her age because she still has more energy and life in her than I do and I am only in my early 30's. Well I have 2 boys and a house full of birds, 2 chihuahuas, 1 golden retriever, 1 mini hen and rooster and our turtle Cookie. We have had many more animals before such as rabbits, iguanas, fishes, hamsters and lizards but they either died or were eaten by a hawk or this nasty black cat (no offense to cat lovers) that come into our yard. If my oldest had his way we would be up to our armpits in animals. He is like a walking pet encyclopedia. So anyways, I am a big crafty gal, I love just about anything creative such as knitting, scrapbooking, jewelry making, photography, bookbinding, sewing and anything nifty and crafty. I have a little shop on etsy called Mi Bazaar Latino , I am not very happy with the name of my shop, I wanted to create some Mexican Sugar Skull beads so I had to think of something latin but never thought I would sell other items later on and now almost 2900 items later I sell kitschy hairclips, jewelry and supplies. I wanted to change the name to something that applies to my retro jewelry but I don't want to give up my precious feedbacks, they have all been so possitive, so I will stick with name for awhile more. A lesson for anyone wanting to start a shop, choose your shop name carefully because it will stick with you and your handmade items. Oh Well!
I am now getting a beautiful logo created by Anna from Art Deco Design's, so I will finally look professional like everyone else. Yeah!! I love alchemy, it is the greatest. That's how I found Anna. She is so talented and her prices are great.

Well my arm is getting tired and the kids are fussing so I better tend to them now. I will leave you with a picture of Chico our 9 month Chihuahua. So Cute;)
